Pom Pom, Kanana & Nxabega

This large, strictly photographic concession is now effectively split between three safari companies: Ker & Downey who run Kanana, CCAfrica who run Nxabega, and Wilderness Safaris who recently took over Pom Pom.

Getting there and away
All of these camps work only with guests flying in, usually having made their bookings months before they travel. Driving here is not possible without permission and totally impractical.

When to visit
Slightly less seasonal than the areas further south and west, there’s still a big difference between the game densities through the seasons; they’re a lot better when it’s drier. As usual, the birding is as good as it gets during the wetter time of the year (December to around March).

Flora and fauna highlights
Travelling from south to north, the landscapes, flora and fauna change very slowly, but there are slight differences between the different parts of the reserve. Bear in mind whilst reading this that the similarities between the different areas are much greater than their differences.

<< Click on the left menu for much more detail on the flora, fauna and birdlife in this area – as well as a story about a lizard!

Where to stay
All the camps are totally different, perhaps because they’re run in different ways by different companies.
