Sankuyo Community

The small NG33 reserve is really an enclave that has been cut out of NG34. It borders Moremi, and this is where the old San-Ta-Wani Safari Lodge used to be, which was one of the Delta’s older, dry, photographic camps. Gametrackers ran it, before Orient Express Hotels bought their whole operation and changed it. They stopped using this camp as part of their ‘circuit’, and after that San-Ta-Wani fell into a downward spiral. It was used as a self-catering stop for mobile safaris for a while, but is currently disused.
In character it’s very similar to the area around South Gate and parts of NG34. However, with no major watercourse or other focal point, it’s not an easy area in which to run a stand-alone operation.
Currently I’m told that the community is trying to develop something here by itself – though it seems unlikely that anything will materialise in the near future.
