Abu Camp & Macatoo

Visiting this large concession west of Moremi, the focus is more about the activities that you do here, rather than the environment. Abu Camp is the main place in the Delta for riding elephants, and Macatoo Camp is one of the Delta’s two centres for horse-riding. The third camp, which I won’t cover here, is the relatively famous hunting camp, Selby’s.

Getting there and away
The only option for these camps is to make advanced bookings and fly in; there’s an airstrip near Abu Camp which is used by both operations. Driving here is totally impractical.

When to visit
Because the focus of a trip here is the experience of horse-riding or the interactions with elephants, it’s fine as long as you avoid the rains. So visit anytime from late-April/May to around mid–end December.
