Nxabega Trails Camp

In the same area as Nxabega is a small, simple bushcamp used by some of the mobile safaris run by AfroVentures. This is one of the places that the brochure blurbs refer to when they say that a trip will stay ‘in the Delta in a small bushcamp’.
The camp itself is essentially temporary, and when I visited it had just a few simple 3m by 3m dome tents on a small palm island. Each has twin beds with mattresses, pillows and blankets. All four sides of these particular tents opened up to reveal sides of gauze netting. Outside each was a canvas wash-stand, and the whole area was lit by oil lamps. Toilets were shared and there were bucket showers (suspended from convenient trees and screened off behind reed walls).
Activities were mainly mokoro trips with short walks on the islands, plus perhaps the occasional drive. They were arranged so that the visitors to the trails camp never saw anything to do with Nxabega, and vice versa – how a wilderness experience ought to be.
Rates: A stay here is never sold on its own, it’s always part of a larger mobile trip visiting a number of bushcamps with a private guide. Open: all year.
