This open pan (GPS:DECPAN) at the southern end of the valley is found by taking a short detour, about 1.5km from the main track. It fills with water during the rains, but for the rest of the year it's flat, cracked mud tinged by a vivid red colour – caused by a small red water plant which flourishes when it's full.
