Passarge Pan

A little beyond the southwest end of Passarge Valley track, Passarge Pan is on the south side of the track which leads to a water pump, (GPS:PUMP1). North of here a track leads through some lovely country dotted with small pans to Motopi Pan, and ultimately to the double fence which is the northern boundary of the reserve. Note that there is no open gate here, and no way in or out of the reserve by this road. However, when you reach the fence you can take a right and follow a decent track that runs east beside the fence, and then southeast from Kuke Corner (still confined within the park's boundary fence) to the main entrance.

The western link

On the northeast side of Passarge Pan, the track south towards Phukwi, Tau, San and Phokoje pans starts at (GPS:PATURN). This track is the start of the 'western link', which eventually heads south towards Piper's Pan.

You'll see from the map here that this track seems to zig-zag, always heading either north–south or east–west. This is because the inter-dune valleys (with their string of pans) run east–west, and these usually make the best game-viewing areas. These valleys are linked by tracks running north–south, across the top of the dunes.

Note that on this track, the first few kilometres south of the main cut line track (GPS:PATURN) is very boggy; I'd expect this to be exceedingly challenging during the rains.

For an alternative route south, you can enter the western link via Tau Pan. To do this, first turn east along the cut line towards the north end of Deception Valley. About 18km from (GPS:PATURN), there's a track which heads almost due south to Phukwi Pan. There is a campsite on this route at Tau Pan, code CKT1.

The only other campsite on this side is CKT2 which is roughly half way along the track which follows Phokoje Pan, at (GPS:CKT2). Heading east along this, the track splits off southeast from Phokoje Pan about 18km before its junction (GPS:LETIAH) with the main track from the Letiahau Valley to Piper's Pan.
