About 9km from the centre of Kasane town and 3km from the control point at Kazungula, Kubu stands beside the river. It has two signposts pointing to it from the main road – but best approach following the westerly one, as the lodge is only about 500m from there.

Kubu's chalets are all substantial wooden buildings raised off the ground with stairs up to the veranda at the front, set in lush green lawns under shady trees beside the river. Solid wooden tree trunks have been used to construct the beds, and each chalet is well furnished with rugs on the wooden floors, wickerwork chairs and a laundry basket. (Laundry is usually included in room rates here.) Kubu has mains electricity, and under the high, thatched roof you'll find some unexpected modern conveniences like a coffee machine, a fan, and a system of emergency fire sprinklers. The small bathroom has a flush toilet, shower, and a vanity unit where you can plug in a shaver. Most rooms have a double bed, and also a three-quarters bed.

Kubu's restaurant is a solid building, in the style of a Swiss chalet, overlooking the river. It includes a small bar, and has tables indoors as well as some under umbrellas outside. Expect lots of ethnic prints on the tables and good food. Lunch/dinner costs around US$10/20 per person. By the river there's a swimming pool surrounded by lawns, with a braai area and boma next to it. Kubu's office doubles as a large curio shop, selling a variety of statues, masks, a few books and plenty of postcards.

Kubu organises boat cruises and game drives. The jetty at the lodge itself is used for boat cruises eastwards, up the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi, whilst game-viewing cruises heading west into Chobe National Park actually depart from Wenela harbour, in Kasane. (The drive there and back is included.)

Boat cruises and game drives from Kubu last about three hours each. Boat cruises go 10.00–13.00 or 15.00–18.30. Game drives three times a day: 06.00–09.30, 10.00–13.00 and 15.00–18.00. All cost about US$20 per person plus park fees.
