Sitatunga Camp

PO Box 66, Maun; tel: 6864539; email: sitatunga@info.bw
To reach Sitatunga Camp you head southwest from Maun, towards Toteng and Ghanzi, before turning off the main road about 10.8km past the old left turn to Francistown and the Engen Garage. The lodge is about 2km off the main road down a sandy track. Because of this distance, and the fact that all of Maun's other camps are on the road northwest of town, Sitatunga always feels something of an 'outsider'. However, situated next to the crocodile farm, it remains a good place for campers with vehicles who want a peaceful spot to stay for a few days. (Though Sunday can be busy, as it's a popular outing for Maun's residents.)

The campsites are spread out under trees. A shaded patio and adjacent bar (with braai facilities) stand beside a small pool nearby. The ablutions are basic but clean, and hot water is heated by (wood-burning) donkey-boiler. A simple laundry service is available: about P30 for a large pillowcase full, and P10 for a small one!

There is a small, but very busy, shop here selling a few very basic foodstuffs, cool drinks, wine, beer and an extensive range of ice cream. There's also a curio shop with T-shirts, hats and simple souvenirs. Many are branded with the logo of 'Penduka', reflecting that Sitatunga was bought by Penduka Safaris a few years ago, and is now used as their base.
