The Tree Lodge

(7 tents) Book via Travel Wild: PO Box 236, Mathiba I Rd, Maun; tel: 6860822; fax: 6860493; email: t.wild@info.bw. (For emergencies, lodge direct tel: 7170 0331)
This new lodge (GPS: TREELO 20°03.110'S; 23°22.329'E) is owned by Brent Dacomb, and opened just outside Maun in July 2002. It's set on a game farm that covers 3km2 on the outskirts of town. To get there leave Maun on the road to Nata. Shortly after you pass the Caltex 24-hour fuel station, and the adjacent turning northwest past Maun Lodge, there's another right turn. This should be labelled with a sign to the lodge; it's about 50m before you reach the 'Auto Pedigree' car showroom – so if you pass that, you've gone too far.

Taking this turning right (which heads roughly southwest), the tar road soon becomes a dirt track and, 50m after that, it splits. Bear left here and continue through a village. After the village keep bearing left, and following the signs for about 8km – when you'll see a sign for the lodge on your right. After 500m this track leads to the gate of Game Farm. Once inside the gate, the track leads you straight to the lodge.

The tents are described as luxurious and set on their own individual wooden decks, with en-suite showers and toilets. The main area overlooks a small waterhole, and here they serve a full range of meals; there's also a swimming pool and some marked walking trails through the bush. Airport transfers are included in their rates.
