Francistown is pretty compact, with most hotels, restaurants and shopping facilities along or just off the oddly named Blue Jacket Street, which runs more or less north–south, parallel to the railway. The street acquired its name from prospector Sam Andersen – or, more specifically, in memory of his jacket! The town has a large hospital, a library, and various shopping malls and markets.
