Walk Trail Camps

(3 tents each)
Usually referred to as simply Selinda's walking trails camps, you won't find their names, Mokoba and Tshwene, used very often. Both stand along the Selinda Spillway (the Magwegqana, towards the northeast of the reserve).

Tshwene is further west, where the spillway is still relatively narrow, standing under some lovely old leadwood (Combretum imberbe) and knobthorn (Acacia nigrescens) trees. It is one of the smallest and simplest camps that you'll find in Botswana. Mokoba is in the far northeast corner of the reserve, close to the Kwando River. Neither is more than about 6km from Selinda Camp, and typically visitors spend a few days at one of the permanent camps (Selinda or Zibalianja), then a few days walking to one of these camps, and then continue to the other camp for their last nights.

Accommodation in either of the walking camps consists of mini-Meru tents. These have large panels of airy (but insect-proof) mesh, and solar lighing inside. Inside is enough space in which to stand, two proper single beds, a small bedside table and a couple of chairs.

A separate fly-sheet extends to create a tiny veranda, next to which you'll find a washbasin in a stand with a screen around it. Bucket showers (hot water provided on request) and flushing toilets are separate; the showers are shared between the guests.
Meals are very relaxed and al fresco; the table is usually set up under the stars, and the food is good despite having only the simplest of bush kitchens.

These camps focus on walking safaris, although short night drives are also possible. Each camp takes just four walkers at a time (six if all in one group!) and the reserve has earned an excellent reputation as one of the very best reserves in Botswana for walking. The guides here are always armed, and accompanied by a tracker. Guiding standards are high because they are specialist walking guides.

A typical day here would be perhaps 6–8km between camps in a morning, and a shorter walk of perhaps 4–5km in the afternoon.
