What to see & do

Wherever you stay here, however you travel, your activities during the day will be almost exclusively game drives – as walking and night drives are forbidden by park rules, and the Khwai is too shallow and narrow for safe boating.

Game-viewing roads and loops spread out on both sides of North Gate, to the west and east. Most stick close to the Khwai River, either exploring the river's floodplain or the adjacent band of riverine forest. You'll need Veronica Roodt's map of Moremi (see Further Reading) to get the best from these, as they're not shown on the main map of Botswana.

If you're visiting in the wet season, then consider taking one of the long drives that loop away from the river east of North Gate – like Sepanyana Road. These give you access to some of the pans in the mopane area, which might prove more productive for game at that time.
