Rakops

Useful as a (hand-pumped) refuelling stop and reachable now entirely on tarmac from Maun, Rakops (GPS: RAKOPS) is notable for a tall radio mast in the centre of town, and as the last outpost passed on many trips into the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. It's also got cellphone coverage.

North of here a new tar road shadows the western side of the Boteti River, to Motopi and thence Maun. East of here, the road passes through Mopopi, around Orapa, and thence splits with one fork heading for Francistown, and the other for Palapye. All of these routes are now tarred and very good quality.
