When to visit

To visit Nxai Pan National Park you really need a vehicle, either your own or one driven by one of the mobile safari operators from Maun. Either way, you should come with all your fuel, water and food – there are no shops or petrol pumps here.

The route here is very easy to find, and starts with a northerly turn-off from the main Maun–Nata road at (GPS: NXAI01). This is about 134km from Maun and 158km from Nata, and is very well signposted so you're unlikely to miss it.
There's one track north here, and after 18km of fairly thick, corrugated and fairly unpleasant sand driving, you'll reach a right turn at (GPS: NXAI02). This leads to Kudiakam Pan and Baines.

Continue straight, bearing north-northeast for a further 18km and you'll reach the entrance gate (GPS: NXAI05), which is at the south end of the main pan.
