Ngwato dynasty

In Serowe: Village of the Rain Wind (see Further Reading), Bessie Head describes this remarkable dynasty, beginning with the reign of Khama the Great. He was king when the capital of the Bamangwato (Ngwato) moved to Serowe in 1902. Previously the capital had been 100 miles away at Shoshong, and then at Palapye, but each time the tribe was forced to move on when water sources dried up. In 1902 two rivers, the Sepane and the Manonnye, flowed through Serowe, although both have subsequently dried up.
