Getting there

The lake's bed is surrounded by a triangle of good roads, so approaching it is a matter of turning off one of these and following your nose (or, perhaps better, your compass or GPS). If you're feeling cautious then start by checking out the road which leaves Sehithwa heading south-southeast. This was a rough gravel track across the dry bed of the lake when I last travelled on it, but it may be tar now. If there's any water in the lake then it's likely to be on the eastern side of this road.

If so, then the road between Sehithwa and Toteng passes close to the northern shore. To maximise your chances of getting close to the water even when it's receded a little, strike off this about a third to half way from Sehithwa to Toteng, and try to find tracks heading south and slightly east. You should reach the shore within about 5km of the road.
