Eden & Mantis

Xudum has two satellite trails camps, Eden and Mantis, both of which were built around 1995 when Xudum was built. Recently a third walking-trail camp was added – Baobab – but that’s since been taken down.
Both are small, simple tented camps designed for small numbers of walkers. Dining and relaxing is in the open air under the trees, and the tents are raised up on a platform, basically furnished with simple camp beds (linen provided). On the ground next to the tent, screened off with a reed wall, is a private flush toilet and bucket shower. There’s gas for cooking and paraffin lanterns, but no electricity here. Activities at both concentrate almost entirely on walking, led by a guide accompanied by a tracker, though there’s usually a vehicle at each camp for emergencies.
