Rann’s Camp

Built in 1997, Rann’s Camp (GPS: RANNS – 19°38.032’S, 22°53.980’E) is southwest of Gubanare in NG29, about 8km southeast of Pom Pom. Its main bar, dining room and lounge are protected under a thatched, wooden area furnished comfortably with teak furniture, and a jetmaster fireplace that’s great for cooler mornings. A raised wooden deck extends around the lounge and has a small swimming pool set into it.
The wooden chalets are also thatched, with simple decor inside and en-suite shower, flush toilet and washbasin (hot water from gas geysers). The windows are protected by mosquito gauze. Note that although chalets 1–4 are close to the main areas, the others are more spread out. Number eight is wonderfully secluded, but about 550m from the centre of camp!
Activities include 4WD game drives by day and night, walking trips, and mokoro excursions. When the flood is high, between about May to September, Rann’s can be cut off from the airstrip – and then the only way to get here is by plane to Xudum airstrip, then 4WD trip to Mantis Camp, followed by a short mokoro ride from there to the camp.
