Mobile safari

Mobile trips in Botswana range from cheap-and-cheerful budget safaris to absolutely top-class operations running privately guided trips for small family groups. Thus generalising amongst them is difficult.

That said, as a general rule, the more they cost, the further in advance they should be booked. The cheaper ones often survive on last-minute bookings from people who turn up; the more costly private ones can be booked-up years in advance.

Ideally, talk to someone who has been on safari with the mobile operator that you're considering before booking with them. If this isn't possible then don't hesitate to ask a lot of questions before you decide which trip is right for you. You'll be stuck with your guide and group for a week or more, so it's vital to make the right choice.

You'll find most of these companies are based in Maun, with only a few elsewhere – like Kasane. The best often have overseas tour operators who know them well, and will sell their trips at around the same price (or even cheaper) than they do directly.
