Sitatunga
Tragelaphus spekei Shoulder height 85–90cm. Weight 105–115kg. This semi-aquatic antelope is a widespread but infrequently observed inhabitant of west and central African papyrus swamps, from the Okavango in Botswana to the Sudd in Sudan. In Botswana they're concentrated in the Okavango – which has a strong population – though they're also seen periodically in the Kwando-Linyanti and Chobe systems. The best places to go and spot them are the deep-water areas with plenty of papyrus – including Moremi and NG21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. Because of their preferred habitat, sitatunga are elusive and seldom seen, even in areas where they are relatively common. They are also less easy to hunt/poach than many other species, although they are exceedingly vulnerable to habitat destruction. Sitatunga are noted for an ability to submerse themselves completely, with just their nostrils showing, when pursued by a predator.
